CASA's home slope plane flying site is located near Jefferson, MD on a working farm owned by the Wiles family. It is available for slope flying by CASA members and their guests at all times provided the animals are not at the top. This is a fine slope site and perhpas the only slope soaring within many miles so please be on your best behavior.  Contact our Flying Site Coordinator or Safety Officer with any questions you may have or read more for directions and restrictions. Click on the "Read more..." link for restrictions and additional CASA requirements.

Directions:

Follow I-270 North and take the RT80 West exit towards Buckeystown.  In ~5 miles turn left on RT85.  In ~0.6 miles turn right on Adamstown Road.  In ~1.8 miles turn right on Mountville Road.  Follow Mountville Road for ~3.8 miles. The slope will be on the left just past the crest of the hill about 3.8 miles.

The slope on the north west side of Catoctian Mountain near the town of Jefferson Maryland has been used by RC fliers since the mid sixties and hang gliders flew there in the Seventies. Although not currently used by Hang Gliders the slope is actively used by members of CASA which leases the site for all types of RC slope flying.

What is Slope Flying?

Slope soaring offers a unique brand of flying excitement not found in other types of RC model flying. From flying lazily along with a floater, to breath taking high speed beach runs, slope racing, and aerobatics, there is something for every skill level of pilot. Besides being a lot of fun, how many other model pilots do you know who want the wind to blow?

It is easy to see why slope soaring is fast becoming one of the most popular parts of RC soaring. Slope soaring is no longer limited to just the east and west coasts. As the popularity of slope soaring grows, more flying sites are turning up throughout the country.
